pAst.

come to think of it, there is a "blogger problem saga" which matched with my inactiveness of blogging.
been thru alot lately,
late sleeping, presentations and all.

kinda came to school alittle too early today.
and again, we were stucked ._. me and frank.
the other 3 of them overslept thou,

anyways, actually, didn't had anything much on my mind to blog
was doing on URA about development when bugis came into my mind.
do you know...

Bugis Street lies in an extensive area which was commonly referred to in the past, by the Chinese-educated community, as Xiao Po (小坡; little slope). The latter stretched all the way from Tanjong Pagar, through Singapore's Chinatown, to Jalan Sultan. The whole vicinity was thriving and crammed with merchants and traders, making it one of the most vibrant economic zones of old Singapore.

According to knowledgeable long-term residents of the area, before the arrival of the British, there used to be a large canal which ran through the area where the Bugis, a seafaring people from South Sulawesi province in Indonesia, could sail up, moor their boats and trade with Singaporean merchants.

It was these people after whom the thoroughfare was named. The Bugis, or Buginese, also put their sailing skills to less benign uses and gained a reputation in the region as being a race of bloodthirsty pirates.

During the early colonial era, there also used to be low mounds of whitish sand in the area, earning the street the familiar Hokkien moniker of Peh Soa Pu or Bai Sha Fu in Mandarin (白沙浮; white sand mounds). The Cantonese, however, referred to the street as Hak Gaai or Hei Jie in Mandarin (黑街; black street) as there were many clubs catering to the Japanese invaders in the 1940s. During the first half of the 20th century, commuters could conveniently travel from Bugis Street to anywhere else in Xiao Po via a tram service which ran along North Bridge Road, which was referred to by the Chinese-educated as Xiao Po Da Ma Lu (小坡大马路; little slope main road).

After World War II, hawkers gathered there to sell food and goods. There was initially also a small number of outdoor bars set up beside rat-infested drains.

kinda looked like Malaysia isn't it?

After the world war, going back to the Bugis in the 1950s to the 1980s, and surprisingly it was well known for it gathering of transwomen, which indeed made Singapore one of the top tourist destinations during that period.

Meanwhile Bras Basah being called Beras Basah in the 1836 as in the early days, wet rice was left to dry on the area where there is a “fresh water stream”

yea, kinda done with my individual assignment, and
oh well, hope everything goes well for me *fingers crossed*

& i'm anticipating the ECLIPSE !

from Asiaone.
"The world's most populous nations will gaze skywards Wednesday as the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century lays a carpet of darkness across India and China, from Mumbai to Shanghai."

it's an eclispe which last for 6 mins, 38.8 secs!

and "...There are also less otherworldly concerns - the potentially massive audience for this eclipse has raised fears that many could end up with permanent retina damage from viewing the event with the naked eye.

Delhi-based eye surgeon Rituraj Barauh said the most dangerous phase was immediately after totality when the sun re-emerged.

'It's this quick shift from darkness to very bright light that does the damage,' he said.

Indian and Chinese authorities have used the media to educate people on the importance of wearing protective lenses, while others recommend live web casts at sites like live-eclipse.org and atlaspost.com/2009tse..."

SO what are you waiting for?
hop on and enjoy the ride :D

[What the Mordern Woman (GCPP Wants]

This is an award-winning story by an RGS girl in a Commonwealth competition

What the Modern Woman Wants
by Chong Wei-Zhen

The old woman sat in the backseat of the magenta
convertible as it careened down the highway, clutching
tightly to the plastic bag on her lap, afraid it may
be kidnapped by the wind. She was not used to such
speed, with trembling hands she pulled the seatbelt
tighter but was careful not to touch the patent
leather seats with her callused fingers, her daughter
had warned her not to dirty it, 'Fingerprints show
very clearly on white, Ma.'

Her daughter, Bee Choo, was driving and talking on her
sleek silver mobile phone using big words the old
woman could barely understand. 'Finance' 'Liquidation'
'Assets' 'Investments'... Her voice was crisp and
important and had an unfamiliar lilt to it. Her Bee
Choo sounded like one of those foreign girls on
television. She was speaking in an American accent.

The old lady clucked her tongue in disapproval.
'I absolutely cannot have this. We have to sell!' Her
daughter exclaimed agitatedly as she stepped on the accelerator; her
perfectly manicured fingernails gripping onto the steering wheel in
irritation.

'I can't DEAL with this anymore!' she yelled as she
clicked the phone shut and hurled it angrily toward
the backseat.
The mobile phone hit the old woman on the forehead and
nestled soundlessly into her lap. She calmly picked it
up and handed it to her daughter.

'Sorry, Ma,' she said, losing the American pretence
and switching to Mandarin. 'I have a big client in
America. There have been a lot of problems.'
The old lady nodded knowingly. Her daughter was big
and important.

Bee Choo stared at her mother from the rear view
window, wondering what she was thinking. Her mother's
wrinkled countenance always carried the same cryptic
look.

The phone began to ring again, an artificially
cheerful digital tune, which broke the awkward
silence.
'Hello, Beatrice! Yes, this is Elaine.' Elaine. The
old woman cringed. I didn't name her Elaine. She
remembered her daughter telling her, how an English
name was very important for 'networking', Chinese ones
being easily forgotten.

'Oh no, I can't see you for lunch today. I have to
take the ancient relic to the temple for her weird
daily prayer ritual.'

Ancient Relic. The old woman understood perfectly it
was referring to her. Her daughter always assumed that
her mother's silence meant she did not comprehend.

'Yes, I know! My car seats will be reeking of joss
sticks!'
The old woman pursed her lips tightly, her hands
gripping her plastic bag in defence.
The car curved smoothly into the temple courtyard. It
looked almost garish next to the dull sheen of the
ageing temple's roof. The old woman got out of the
back seat, and made her unhurried way to the main
hall.

Her daughter stepped out of the car in her business
suit and stilettos and reapplied her lipstick as she
made her brisk way to her mother's side.

'Ma, I'll wait outside. I have an important phone call
to make,' she said, not bothering to hide her disgust
at the pungent fumes of incense.

The old lady hobbled into the temple hall and lit a
joss stick, she knelt down solemnly and whispered her
now familiar daily prayer to the Gods.

Thank you God of the Sky, you have given my daughter
luck all these years. Everything I prayed for, you
have given her. She has everything a young woman in
this world could possibly want. She has a big house
with a swimming pool, a maid to help her, as she is
too clumsy to sew or cook.

Her love life has been blessed; she is engaged to a
rich and handsome angmoh man. Her company is now the
top financial firm and even men listen to what she
says. She lives the perfect life. You have given her
everything except happiness. I ask that the gods be
merciful to her even if she has lost her roots while
reaping the harvest of success.

What you see is not true, she is a filial daughter to
me. She gives me a room in her big house and provides
well for me. She is rude to me only because I affect
her happiness. A young woman does not want to be
hindered by her old mother. It is my fault.

The old lady prayed so hard that tears welled up in
her eyes. Finally, with her head bowed in reverence
she planted the half-burnt joss stick into an urn of smouldering
ashes.

She bowed once more.
The old woman had been praying for her daughter for
thirty-two years. When her stomach was round like a
melon, she came to the temple and prayed that it was a
son.

Then the time was ripe and the baby slipped out of her
womb, bawling and adorable with fat thighs and pink
cheeks, but unmistakably, a girl. Her husband had
kicked and punched her for producing a useless baby
who could not work or carry the family name.

Still, the woman returned to the temple with her
new-born girl tied to her waist in a sarong and prayed
that her daughter would grow up and have everything
she ever wanted. Her husband left her and she prayed
that her daughter would never have to depend on a man.

She prayed every day that her daughter would be a
great woman, the woman that she, meek and uneducated,
could never become. A woman with nenggan; the ability
to do anything she set her mind to. A woman who
commanded respect in the hearts of men. When she
opened her mouth to speak, precious pearls would fall
out and men would listen.

She will not be like me, the woman prayed as she
watched her daughter grow up and drift away from her,
speaking a language she scarcely understood. She
watched her daughter transform from a quiet girl, to
one who openly defied her, calling her laotu;
old-fashioned. She wanted her mother to be 'modern', a
word so new there was no Chinese word for it.

Now her daughter was too clever for her and the old
woman wondered why she had prayed like that. The gods
had been faithful to her persistent prayer, but the
wealth and success that poured forth so richly had
buried the girl's roots and now she stood, faceless,
with no identity, bound to the soil of her ancestors
by only a string of origami banknotes.

Her daughter had forgotten her mother's values. Her
wants were so ephemeral; that of a modern woman.
Power, Wealth, access to the best fashion boutiques,
and yet her daughter had not found true happiness. The
old woman knew that you could find happiness with much
less. When her daughter left the earth everything she
had would count for nothing. People would look to her
legacy and say that she was a great woman, but she
would be forgotten once the wind blows over, like the
ashes of burnt paper convertibles and mansions.

The old woman wished she could go back and erase all
her big hopes and prayers for her daughter; now she
had only one want: That her daughter be happy. She
looked out of the temple gate. She saw her daughter
speaking on the phone, her brow furrowed with anger
and worry. Being at the top is not good, the woman
thought, there is only one way to go from there -
down.

The old woman carefully unfolded the plastic bag and
spread out a packet of beehoon in front of the altar.
Her daughter often mocked her for worshipping
porcelain Gods. How could she pray to them so
faithfully and expect pieces of ceramic to fly to her
aid? But her daughter had her own gods too, idols of
wealth, success and power that she was enslaved to and worshipped
every day of her life.

Every day was a quest for the idols, and the idols she worshipped
counted for nothing in eternity. All the wants her daughter had would
slowly suck the life out of her and leave her, an empty soulless shell
at the altar.

The old lady watched her joss tick. The dull heat had
left a teetering grey stem that was on the danger of collapsing.
Modern woman nowadays, the old lady sighed in
resignation, as she bowed to the east one final time
to end her ritual. Modern woman nowadays want so much
that they lose their souls and wonder why they cannot
find it.

Her joss stick disintegrated into a soft grey powder.
She met her daughter outside the temple, the same look
of worry and frustration was etched on her daughter's
face. An empty expression, as if she was ploughing
through the soil of her wants looking for the one
thing that would sow the seeds of happiness.

They climbed into the convertible in silence and her
daughter drove along the highway, this time not as
fast as she had done before.

'Ma,' Bee Choo finally said. 'I don't know how to put
this. Mark and I have been talking about it and we
plan to move out of the big house. The property market
is good now, and we managed to get a buyer willing to
pay seven million for it. We decided we'd prefer a
cosier penthouse apartment instead. We found a perfect
one in Orchard Road. Once we move in to our apartment
we plan to get rid of the maid, so we can have more
space to ourselves...'

The old woman nodded knowingly.
Bee Choo swallowed hard. 'We'd get someone to come in
to do the housework and we can eat out - but once the
maid is gone, there won't be anyone to look after you.
You will be awfully lonely at home and, besides that,
the apartment is rather small. There won't be space.
We thought about it for a long time, and we decided
the best thing for you is if you moved to a Home.
There's one near Hougang - it's a Christian home, a very
nice one.'

The old woman did not raise an eyebrow. 'I've been
there, the matron is willing to take you in. It's
beautiful with gardens and lots of old people to keep
you company! I hardly have time for you, you'd be
happier there.'

'You'd be happier there, really.' Her daughter
repeated as if to affirm herself.
This time the old woman had no plastic bag of food
offerings to cling tightly to; she bit her lip and
fastened her seat belt, as if it would protect her
from a daughter who did not want her anymore. She sunk
deep into the leather seat, letting her shoulders sag,
and her fingers trace the white seat.

'Ma?' her daughter asked, searching the rear view
window for her mother. 'Is everything okay?'
What had to be done, had to be done. 'Yes,' she said
firmly, louder than she intended, 'if it will make you
happy,' she added more quietly.

'It's for you, Ma! You'll be happier there. You can
move there tomorrow, I already got the maid to pack
your things.' Elaine said triumphantly, mentally
ticking yet another item off her agenda.

'I knew everything would be fine.'

Elaine smiled widely; she felt liberated. Perhaps
getting rid of her mother would make her happier. She
had thought about it. It seemed the only hindrance in
her pursuit of happiness. She was happy now. She had
everything a modern woman ever wanted; Money, Status,
Career, Love,Power and now, Freedom, without her
mother and her old-fashioned ways to weigh her down...

Yes, she was free. Her phone buzzed urgently, she
picked it up and read the message, still beaming from
ear to ear. 'Stocks 10% increase!'

Yes, things were definitely beginning to look up for
her...

And while searching for the meaning of life in the
luminance of her hand phone screen, the old woman in
the backseat became invisible, and she did not see the tears.

well before i go, i would like to share a email i'd read.
titled 45 Life Lessons.

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio :
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:"

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

bloody sunday.

white is pure.
red is blood.
when everything fall upon...

*sighs*
what a day, crapped i just lost my Ice Cream.
yes, today.
everything took it's toll when we missed the bus stop.
and have to switch 2 bus back.
yes, adel and i of course.
and after that i squat down to wait for the bus.
got up and board the bus,
then that's where everything happened.
after i alight.
i tried to felt for my pocket,

*until then, there's a pic on sorrow.*

Sorry, seems to be the hardest word.

there's not popping rectangular thing,
but emptiness.
my heart was speeding and the world came crashing upon me.
i'm so sorry i ruined your day...
we ended up, ...

head over to Marina, after failure to find a Singapore Pools in Bukit Merah East.
and i fucking threw the kite away.
maybe it's a wake up call,
maybe it's time i shld be the one leading the show.
maybe it's time, i starts to learn, how is it like.
maybe it's time for me to grow up.

head back,
totally lost my appetite.
even lost myself during our coffee club session.
totally, i didn't even finish my fucking mocha,
so did the patheic cake.
what an expensive meal.
fuck it.
board 700 A.

if i'm a good man, the world will rotate the opposite way.
can the world rotate the opposite way? NO.
if i deserve you, the sun will rise from the east.
can the sun rise from the east? NO.

flicking aways the cobwebs and dust.
i looked upon the books of the history.
thinking back, the juices of content flow into my head.
suddenly i feel like i'd no where to go.

a relationship is like drawing on the paper.
the good onces, and the bad ones (memories) are like lines and lines of colours, that formed a unqiue picture.
however, which that much dull colours, can the skies still be painted blue?

* * *

bad things aside.
woohoo! SHADES~

nice right?! :D
weets! specs girls are super sweet!

i'm fighting, i'm not crying.

rough

yes, it's a rough patch!
kinda chiong through my RMT presentation.
._.

actually, it's a very boring day today..
*waits*
oh wait!
YES, i fucking did my own blog skin today.
as i'm a html idiot, and i'm too lazy to make my own codes.
i ended up getting pieces by pieces and combine them together.
oh well, i sort gets the best over everything and *looks*
don't think it blends well together!

awww! but i love my top! it's simple, Yet cool!
but i'm living the picture out for now,
didn't have any inspiration yet =D
uh ohhh~
oh well, really spent the whole day, NO DOUBT. YES YES YES
and imagine, me?
an idiot, digging digging and digging, sourced it, and find the code.
h1, h2, h3
=.=
LOLOL~

and there is the final product.
kinda weird i guess :D
but actually, it's a base of white and pink, with specks of black at first.
but later, i tried to splash some colours off the palette to it.
uh yea
now it's like that =.=
just becaused i like the 3 bar thing* so i'm putting it in!

Familiar?! laugh to your hearts content! XD

uh yea, kinda like didn't blog lately.
didn't really feel myself.
head out early today, so i decided to head to the library and get a book on stock market while i'm still fresh with attention.

awww! sometimes, i really LOVED the mornings in the library!
so quiet! XD
love it to bits~
and oh well, head over to meet JiaWei, then to the Marketing Lecture.
and yes! i'm right! XD with a 30.08 dip, Nikkei 225 is bound to dip further!
oh well XD if only i have the investment power.
really wanted to get rich sometimes T_T
desperate* ~
and i really wanna do charity >_<
i just missed it.
hope that Charmaine will be fine.

humans, defy the way god make things,
thus they created science. and changes life.
the future generation, got struck by the double edge sword,
reaped what they sow, and suffered.
1 person, can't make the society a better place.
life is not stagnent. we have to keep moving.

Self motivating doesn't really works alot for me now
*shrugs*
oh well, head over to the rest of my lectures and tutorials, only skipping the last one!
Meet up with Jon, Xian Zheng, Sulaiman and Derrick.
ahahaha, and yes i wanted face, dunno why i ran off after meetin Adel
LOLOL~

head over plaza before heading back to slack at home.
and i deserve a smack on my butt,
for not doing anything during the hols, now the water is clogged and everyhing gots crammed in this small little space.
projects, projects and more projects!
sighs~ hope everything will goes well for the best!

sometimes life just move like a clockwork mouse.
they never fail to do what they have to do,
but, it is always at a point of time, where they have to stop.

le Ciel.

stress i am,
but well, was reading stocks and brushing thru my youtube subscriptions.
"stock markets and shares?"
i'll keep my fingers crossed for this one.
oh well my day is awful today.

skipped the last 3 session of lecture in attempt to finish up my REM draft.
i kinda sum up an idea, calling our property, "Le Ciel"
it's the sky, but not that ordinary cheery sky.
it carries the sense of mysterious.
the feel of lost in time and space.
what do i mean by that?
everything's dark in there, and soothing, so much so, that you'll behave as if, there's not time limit in the world.
humans are always acting upon time.
"look, it's 8, time to get to work *rushes off*"
(sometimes even forgetting the little tiny peck he is suppose to give to his spouse)
& i plan to eradicate the humane action of rushing off ._. hopefully.
moreover, like a stressfree shuttle

and i had to head to school at 11 instead of 1 tomorrow -.-
it's for starting a business.
*phew* i thought it's more like saving gaia before.
geez ~
and was telling all my friends how owning xiaxue was -.- LMAO
her way of "payback"
well it's like a hard smack on your back while smiling at you (:

head over to bpp to do some reading before having dinner.
we head back pretty much early.

and thanks tinkerchel!
uh yea, on of the fellow youtubers subscription was some random people, no idea who she was, but i really like that piece of music by Yiruma.
Introducing, the river flows with you by the fellow Korean.

It's different from others like the keys the pianist hit on with the pitch and everything makes the melody binds with my heart.
and i looped it for like, hell i know how many times.
i'm really a sensitive person to such melody,
and it got me all emo.
and there's something about me that you guys shld know!

if someone really "hit" me real bad.
my pores would be visible and my hairs will be standing. (on my arms that is)
that's how my body shows it's reaction to the music.

i'm really sensitive to the melody of the piano/keyboard -.-
it didn't daunt much on me at first,
but =/ aww~ forget it.

soothing~
sometimes i really hope, life's like a breeze.
it just comes with the leaves.
And goes quietly, leaving the leaves behind.
ah yes i'm greedy :D

no curfew?
drinks?
plays piano?
know how to satisfy me?
pretty?
uh oh... love is like a piece of art.
it's never perfect, but it's the flaws that make each and every piece of relationship, unique, different, and stands out from the very rest.

100% ?

Just back from outside with the guys and i'm sittle on the on the sofa, watching Feel 100% 2003.

and that perverted Razak can't help it but drools and stares.
and we end it off by taking a picture with her.
of course only razak's in there. O_O
head back and Aason's got home.

reach the BP area pretty soon!
and aww Jon's going to sleep.
went to the nearby Pasar Malam to get a set of Ramly Burger with drinks!
and there we talked!
almost about everything.
from sex =x to uh well, life, school.
and back to the old times.
retro toys like Tamiya Cars, Beyblade, Bomberman.
classical cartriges of Game Boy series.
also venturing to the rectangular class digimon =3
well, i'm pretty nostalgic after all of that.
and back home and watched feel 100% 2003 feat Shawn Yue!

i'd like to give a 4 for entertainment, not much interesting screenplay.
and i still think Peter Chan of Going Home is a genius.
that movie is still fresh in my head.

people keep streaming in!
yay~! it's a success XD woohoo~
BBQ and everything, commence!
it all ended rather fast, head over back with Jon and Cheryl before bathing and meeting jon and went to find them over at bpp.

Get back at home, uh yea, it's 2 sharp in the morning!
was watching away on 8.
yes the movie THREE aka 三更

it's 3 stories, formed into a movie itself, so particularly there's no official poster or something.
so coming up first was, Memories.

summaries are credit to wiki!

"A man goes to a psychiatrist to try to remember what happened the day his wife disappeared from his life. Meanwhile, his wife wakes up and finds herself lying on a deserted road, having no idea how she got there in the first place. She tries to find her way home. At the same time, her husband drives home to their apartment. Separately, they begin to regain their memories of what happened."

after it, it's a Thai production, titled: The Wheel.

"A puppet master lies dying in his bed. This is no ordinary death bed, as screams of terror erupt from him, surrounded by ghosts, which await his death. We later find out that his death was a result of a curse - a curse brought about by the improper ownership of ancient Thai puppets. The puppets belong to their proper master, and whosoever claims these puppets will suffer a horrible death.

The puppets are stolen, and the curse lands on the head of an oblivious Thai puppet troupe. They see great promise in the puppets, yet violence and destruction rains down upon them."

well the 2 movies are like more of, those movies without any particular meaning or ending, so maybe it might got some of you pissed or, confused.
am reaching the last movie now, Going Home. featuring Leon Lai, Eric Tsang.

"While searching for his missing son, a cop, Wai, finds himself detained by his neighbor Yu in his apartment. Yu has been tending to the body of his dead wife for three years, apparently believing that his wife is still alive and will wake up in a day or two so they can go home together."

*

With Going Home, Peter Chan doesn't miss his story beats. Even with the revelations all up till the end, he keeps tremendous focus and delivers a thoughtful, touching message about deep love and beliefs. Combine that expert storytelling with Christopher Doyle's cinematography, Hai Chung Man's art direction and you have a gem of a drama that proves Peter Chan, despite his break in this capacity, is still a director that delivers. Going Home was definitely one of the finest examples of Hong Kong cinema during 2002.

uh yep! that pretty sums it all,
*yawns* tired~
